Grilled Turkey Burgers with Avocado Recipe

I used to dread burger night — greasy mess, bloated belly, and zero energy after. But once I started swapping in ground turkey and adding creamy avocado on top? Game-changer. Now it’s one of our go-to dinners. My kids love them, my husband doesn’t miss the beef, and I feel so much better after eating it. Plus, they’re ready in about 30 minutes!

 

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground turkey (93% lean works great)

  • 1 clove garlic, minced

  • 1/4 cup red onion, finely chopped

  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped

  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard

  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika

  • Salt & pepper, to taste

  • 1 tbsp olive oil (for brushing the grill)

  • 1 ripe avocado, sliced

  • Whole grain or gluten-free burger buns

  • Optional toppings: lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickles

 

Instructions:

  1. Mix the patties: In a large bowl, combine ground turkey, garlic, red onion, parsley, mustard, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix gently with your hands — don’t overwork it.

  2. Form and chill: Shape into 4 burger patties. Place on a plate and refrigerate for 10–15 minutes (this helps them hold together on the grill).

  3. Preheat the grill: Brush the grates with olive oil and preheat to medium-high heat.

  4. Grill: Cook burgers for 5–6 minutes per side, or until internal temp reaches 165°F. Don’t press down on them!

  5. Assemble: Toast buns, add your favorite toppings, and finish with creamy avocado slices on each burger.

 

Tips & Swaps:

  • No grill? Use a grill pan or skillet on the stovetop.

  • Add a kick: Mix in a pinch of cayenne or chopped jalapeño.

  • Make it low-carb: Skip the bun and serve in lettuce wraps or over a salad.
